The popular Skyrim Grandma has recently announced that she will retire from making The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim videos once again. That’s certainly a sad change for fans of the channel, but the YouTuber feels that she’s tired and no longer having fun with Skyrim.
Shirley Curry, also known as the Skyrim Grandma, is an 89-year-old woman who started a Skyrim gameplay channel in 2015 and became incredibly popular since then. With a channel with over 1.3 million subscribers, Curry has posted over a thousand Skyrim gameplay videos for a full decade, building a strong fanbase. However, Skyrim Grandma does not seem as hyped to play Skyrim these days as she was previously.
Skyrim Grandma Retires Due to 'Not Having Fun Anymore'
In her channel’s most recent video, Curry revealed that she’s retiring once more. She’s said to be tired of making Skyrim videos, and just “not having fun anymore.” According to Curry, she still has a few older, regular viewers, but most of the current ones seem to be “very young kids” who are not leaving any feedback on her videos, and that this is not “what I was spending my time on making and uploading videos for.” Despite retiring from making Skyrim gameplay videos, Curry said that she’ll try to keep in touch with the fanbase she built over the years, uploading a vlog once in a while.
This is not the first time that the Skyrim Grandma has retired, as Curry originally decided to step away from her channel last year. At the time, Curry said that she felt exhausted running the channel, and she wanted to pursue other hobbies and spend less time on the computer.
Earlier this year, Skyrim Grandma returned from retirement and started to play Oblivion Remastered. However, this didn’t last long, as she only posted three videos with the game and then went back to her usual Skyrim gameplay videos. It’s unknown if Curry will ever return to posting Skyrim videos on the channel, but considering her history, there’s hope that she could be back eventually.
Even if Curry decides to never post Skyrim videos again, she’s already marked as part of the Elder Scrolls history. Fans made several petitions to turn Shirley Curry into an Elder Scrolls 6 character, and it worked. When the eagerly awaited open-world RPG is finally released, gamers will see the Skyrim Grandma as an NPC, as confirmed by Bethesda. However, the game may still take quite a long while to finally be released.
